I’d like to introduce myself. My name is ................................................... . In this occasion, I want to present a speech about natural disaster mitigation

Ladies and gentlemen

           Recently, natural disasters happen almost everyday in all parts of Indonesia. Tsunami, floods, cyclones, whirl wind, hurricane, landslides,  earthquake,  volcano  eruptions are the  types of  natural disaster phenomena occurring in this country. Almost all parts of Indonesia experience one or more of these disasters The newest one is flood of cold lava from Merapi mountain. Many of the disasters above are unpredictable. Then, we can see many effects there. More severe damage of life, properties, and infrastructures occur.

          Then, why are there so many victims especially human?  The fact shows that we, Indonesian people,  are not ready to face it. We do not have preparation for it. We don’t have knowledge how to handle it well. We don’t know how to anticipate disasters.

          We admit that every disaster takes victims. But can we minimize it?  Yes, of course. But it needs hard work from all elements.  

Ladies and gentlemen

          Therefore, natural disaster mitigation is a must. What is it? Well, natural disaster mitigation is efforts to prevent hazards from developing into disasters altogether, or to reduce the effects of disasters when they occur. The mitigation phase differs from  other phases because it focuses on long-term measures for reducing or eliminating risk.

          In fact, the people aren’t able to handle the disaster. Inability caused by poverty, low education, and limited technological mastery makes the opportunity to find  better life alternative limited. Therefore, the knowledge, understanding and skills of disaster mitigation should be upgraded. Socialization therefore could be set up through several ways, particularly by providing courses, training, guide line books, pictures, and other printed  media given to every family or glued in  strategic places.

          The government represented by National Agency of Disaster Handling or BNPB ( Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana) collaborates with related institutions begins the development of socialization materials of disaster such as map of  risked regions, kinds and indicating of disaster, evacuation map, SOP of disaster handling, information system ( early warning), and disaster mitigation guideline book. The information is socialized through courses, training, education, printed materials and communication media  such as television, radio, and internet.

         The socialization should be followed up through particular trainings of self-rescue by using simulation and rehearsal in order to maintain such knowledge and ability.

         In October 2006, CDE (Consortium for Disaster Education) was founded. It is a consortium of many institutions such as UN agencies, Government Agencies, the Red Cross Movement and so on. It is developed  to achieve the integration of disaster education in the Indonesian education system. The followings are some activities handled by CDE  :
§  School Road Show to Nias Island
§  Disaster Awareness Week by Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta 2008
§  Earthquake drills in Jakarta
§  Jakarta International Tsunami Disaster Management workshop and expo by TDMRC-Unsyiah in Aceh 2008
§   And many more.

        In the future we hope that by educating all the people, Indonesia will be better in handling the disaster to reach a better life.

Let me introduce my team.

My name is ......... and my partner is ..............

We come from SMPN 2 Ponorogo.

I’d like to present about my school VISION AND MISSION.

Ladies and gentleman

My school vision is “TO BE an EXCELLENT SCHOOL WITH LOTS OF ACHIEVEMENTS, GOOD BEHAVIOR, based on  NATION CULTURE  and BELIEF”

And my school missions are:

1.      Achieve fair education service for all.

It  means that everybody has the right to have good education, no matter what their religion, their economic status, their race are. So, SMP 2 will give the same treatment to all students.

2.      Do the intensive practices to create the high level competition. 

It means that SMP 2 will implement learning practices both in intra and extra curricular to achieve good result so that our school can compete with other school not only in the level of Ponorogo regency but also in national level. Beside implementing bilingual class since 2008, beginning this year, our school has launched new class program. It is sport class. In the level of SMP in Ponorogo, only 2 SMPs that have this class program. Just like in bilingual class, students in sport class also have class from 7 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon every Monday till Thursday. In that evening class the students in sport class do intensive practices about sports, such as football, volleyball, swimming. Hopefully later they will be top athlete that can perform well not only in the level of SMP in Ponorogo but  may be also in the level of national.

3. Improve and develop the teacher’s competency. It means that our teachers in SMP 2 always upgrade their competency by joining workshop or seminar held by SMP 2 itself or other institutions.

4. Achieve the standardized learning process with CTL approach. CTL encourages students to be able to apply what they get at school in real life, meaning that CTL not only expects students to understand the material learned, but how the subject can color their behavior in everyday life. For example in English lesson. The students are asked to find a material of procedure text. They bring the package of certain medicine. There are many English notes in the package. They learn the content of the package. Later, if in real life their family ask them about the medicine, they can explain it. 

5. Prepare the standardized education facility. Means that our school has lots of learning facilities as the facilitator that can improve the student’s competence. The teachers give us BSE books, good workbook and also worksheet. They also often teach us by using power point media. Our school provide hot spot area for everyone at our school.

6.      Achieve high level graduated academy remark.
Our school do lots of efforts to improve the students achievements such as by having the guidance of superior students regularly so that their achievements can be maximalized. Beginning from the first semester, nine graders have additional lesson hour every Saturday. It is to prepare them to face national examination. Beside that, there are many extra curricular activities that are developed to discover the student’s talent and interest such as music, journalism, reog dance, school red cross and also school activities that train students in terms of leadership such as scout, and intra curricular students organization (OSIS).
So, be a part of SMP N 2 Ponorogo.

The Morality of Teenagers

Firstly, let us be grateful to God Allah S.W.T Who has given us His blessing. So today we have chance to meet.

      

Ladies and Gentleman, today I would like to deliver a speech with the title “The Morality of Teenagers”. Of course we are now teenagers and we know how we feel. And we also know how the teenagers are. As teenagers, we all know the condition of Indonesian teenagers today. Adult people often question the morality of teenagers. Why? Anybody know? Because there are many events that involved teenagers moral degradation. Many teenagers use illegal drugs or involve in drug abuse; female teenagers get pregnant because of immorality or free sex; many of them also play truent; involved in gang fight; involved in crime and so on.

All Audiences, what are the causes? Why are all the facts happened? Do you know? Okay, let me tell you. A modern life and globalization affect our life style. So do easy internet access, mobile phone with complete feature, and our TV programs. Many TV programs do not educate teenagers how to behave well. And other media programs that are not good too.

Ladies and gentleman, now how to improve the morality of teenagers? How? The most common solution is by giving teenagers the knowledge of religion. But it is not enough without giving them good examples. In education institution, teacher’s role are the main points. Recently our teachers have taught as how to be good people with good character. For example: We must not cheat during the test, we must be polite to teachers and also to own friends. Next, we ourselves must select media programs that educate good morality. We must filter internet acces that contains pornography or porn movies.

In addition, don’t forget the role of parents. Parents must take active rule to their children to avoid immorality. Parents can not leave the moral education to teenagers only. For example : Parents must control the use of HP among their children. And don’t forget for the government, they must blockade internet that contains pornography or other immoral content.

Teenagers are the future of this nation. They are fragile generation. They must be protected from bad effects of bad environtment. So everybody must be active to protect the future of this nation. As a teenagers I can only send message that all teenagers must have good morality wherever they are. The future is in our hands!

I thinks that all. Hopefully everybody can learn the lesson from many bad things that involve our teenagers. Thank you and see you next time.
