On Wednesday, 30 April 2014, bilingual class Dapo had a guest from The United States. It was Miss Dee Dee. She is a volunteer who is now teaching in SMA N Slahung. She has been invited to be one of the speakers in the program of 'Mental Preparation for UN 2014 for the ninth grade students.
Her performance impressed all of the students. After introducing herself, she told her experience about what to prepare and learn before coming to Indonesia. One of them was about how to have "poop" in toilet. In the US, the people use standing water closet to have poop, while most houses in our country have sitting water closet for that purpose. It took many times for her to practice using the sitting one.
Another thing she felt uneasy not only in Indonesia but also in many parts of the world that she has visited was the people's opinion of her appearance. In her opinion, usually lots of people think that Americans are white (black), tall, have blonde hair and so on, while she is quite short, has slanted eyes and black hair. She then explained that it was true that her father and mother were from Korea. However, she was born and has lived in America. She is American. There's no reason for others to disclaim her nationality. She also didn't want any discrimination concerning that matter. She added that 99% of Americans are immigrants. Only 1 % is native which is just like us, Asian people.
